The gaming laptop aisle on Amazon is not one market — it is at least three. BytePlaza analyzed 41 current Amazon listings for "gaming laptop" on 2026-08-17 and found a median list price of $1,349.50, sitting inside a price range that stretches from $299.99 to $3,999.99. That is roughly a 13x gap between the cheapest and most expensive machine returned by the same search term.

Key findings

  • Median price: $1,349.50 across 40 priced listings; the average is $1,502.12, indicating the top end pulls the mean above the midpoint.
  • Price range: $299.99 to $3,999.99 — a spread of $3,700.00 within a single product search.
  • 43% of listings (17 of 40) fall in the $1,225–$2,150 band, the densest segment of the market.
  • Brand concentration is moderate: ASUS and Acer tie at 7 listings each (17% apiece); the top six brands account for 30 of 41 listings.
  • Average rating: 4.48★, but only 34 of 41 listings (83%) carry a rating at all.
  • Median review count: 22 — half of the sample has fewer than two dozen ratings, despite 3,193 total reviews across the dataset.
  • 27% of listings were sponsored placements.

What we found

The market clusters just above and below the median

Price bands show a market weighted toward the middle and lower-middle. The two lowest bands together hold 32 of 40 priced listings (81%), while only one listing — 3% — appears in the top $3,075–$4,000 band.

Price band Listings Share
$300–$1,225 15 38%
$1,225–$2,150 17 43%
$2,150–$3,075 7 18%
$3,075–$4,000 1 3%

The gap between the median ($1,349.50) and the average ($1,502.12) is $152.63. That skew is consistent with a long right tail: a small number of high-priced machines lifting the mean while the typical listing sits closer to $1,350. Shoppers budgeting from the average alone would overestimate what the middle of this market actually costs.

Two brands lead, but no brand dominates

Brand share is fragmented. ASUS and Acer each account for 7 of 41 listings (17%), followed by HP at 5 (12%), then msi and KAIGERR at 4 each (10%), and Lenovo at 3 (7%).

Brand Listings Share
ASUS 7 17%
Acer 7 17%
HP 5 12%
msi 4 10%
KAIGERR 4 10%
Lenovo 3 7%

Two observations follow. First, the six named brands cover 30 of 41 listings, leaving 11 listings (27%) distributed among brands outside the top six — a meaningful tail of smaller sellers. Second, KAIGERR, a name with far less mainstream recognition than ASUS or HP, matches msi's listing count at 10% of the sample. On Amazon search results, shelf presence and brand prestige are not the same measurement.

Ratings are high; rating volume is thin

The 34 rated listings average 4.48★. But the median review count is just 22, meaning half the sample has been reviewed fewer than 22 times. The dataset's 3,193 total reviews are therefore concentrated in a minority of listings — the median tells a very different story than the total.

Seven of 41 listings (17%) carry no rating at all. Combined with a low median review count, this suggests a search page populated in part by recently listed or low-volume SKUs. For buyers, a 4.48★ category average offers weak discrimination: with 22 reviews as the midpoint, individual scores rest on small samples and should be weighted accordingly.

Finally, 27% of the listings analyzed were sponsored — better than one in four results was a paid placement rather than an organic ranking. That is context worth carrying into any search-page comparison.
