Key findings

  • The median wireless earbud costs $25.98, but the average is $49.23 — the mean sits nearly twice the median, a signature of a market pulled upward by a small premium tail.
  • Prices span 22x, from $8.99 to $199.95 across the 39 listings with a visible price.
  • 72% of the sample (28 of 40 listings) falls in the $9–$57 band. Only 1 listing (3%) lands in the $104–$152 band.
  • Average rating is 4.49 stars across the 39 listings carrying a rating.
  • Review volume is enormous and lopsided: 755,927 total ratings across the sample, with a median of 2,556 per listing.
  • No brand exceeds 8% share of the sample. Raycon, HAOYUYAN, Soundcore, Apple and JBL each appear 3 times (8% each).
  • 23% of the listings analyzed were sponsored placements.

What we found

The median buyer is shopping in the $26 range, not the $50 range

The gap between the median price ($25.98) and the average price ($49.23) is the single most useful number in this dataset. Averages are the figure most often quoted for earbuds, but here the average describes almost no actual listing — it is inflated by a thin band of premium models reaching up to $199.95. The median, $25.98, is a far better description of what a shopper actually encounters while scrolling.

The band distribution confirms it. More than seven in ten listings (28 of 40, 72%) sit in the $9–$57 range. A further 18% (7 listings) occupy $57–$104. Above that, the market thins dramatically: a single listing (3%) in $104–$152, and 3 listings (8%) in $152–$200.

Price band Listings Share
$9–$57 28 72%
$57–$104 7 18%
$104–$152 1 3%
$152–$200 3 8%

Notably, the $104–$152 band is the emptiest part of the curve. In this sample, the market skips the upper-midrange almost entirely — listings cluster in budget territory or jump to the $152–$200 flagship tier.

Ratings are compressed high; review counts are not

The average rating across 39 rated listings is 4.49 stars. That compression is typical of mature accessory categories: star ratings do relatively little to separate products, because nearly everything visible in search results already clears roughly 4 stars.

Review counts do the separating instead. The sample carries 755,927 total ratings, against a median of 2,556 per listing. If review volume were evenly distributed, 40 listings at the median would total roughly a hundred thousand ratings — the actual figure is several times that, meaning a minority of listings hold the overwhelming majority of the social proof. For a shopper, this means the practical filter is not "is it above 4 stars" (most are) but "how many people stand behind that number."

No brand owns this category

Brand concentration is strikingly low. The most common brands — Raycon, HAOYUYAN, Soundcore, Apple and JBL — each appear 3 times, or 8% of the sample. GNMN follows with 2 listings (5%). Together, the top six brands account for 17 of 40 listings; the remainder is a long tail of individually distinct sellers.

Brand Listings Share
Raycon 3 8%
HAOYUYAN 3 8%
Soundcore 3 8%
Apple 3 8%
JBL 3 8%
GNMN 2 5%

Two things stand out. First, established audio names (Apple, JBL, Soundcore) hold no more shelf presence than lesser-known entrants (HAOYUYAN, GNMN) at identical 8% and 5% counts. Second, 23% of the listings analyzed were sponsored — meaning roughly one in four results a shopper sees is a paid placement rather than an organic ranking, which is one mechanism by which unfamiliar brands reach parity with incumbents.

Methodology

BytePlaza analyzed a sample of 40 current Amazon listings returned for the search term "wireless earbuds", collected and analyzed on 2026-08-17. Prices, star ratings, rating counts, brand names and sponsored labels were recorded as listed at the time of collection. Of the 40 listings, 39 carried a visible price and 39 carried a star rating; price statistics are computed on the priced subset and rating statistics on the rated subset. Price bands were derived by dividing the observed $8.99–$199.95 range into four equal intervals.

This is an analysis of marketplace listing data only. No products were physically tested, measured, or listened to. Listing prices on Amazon change frequently, and figures reflect a single point in time. Brand shares describe this sample of search results, not total category market share.
